Musicians all over the world patronised the site, so it’s unfortunate that it was shut down.
With the platform gone, you may be wondering where you can download sheet music from. No need to worry, as there are many sites are just as good.
1. International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP)
IMSLP is free to use, and they’ve been in the game since 2006. They boast the largest collection of free sheet music around, with over 115,000 pieces available. The best thing about them is that they offer music from over 400 different composers. IMSLP is the best alternative as you even request sheet music.
2. 8 notes
There are three sections on the site: instruments, styles, and artists. This layout makes it easier for you to find the type of pieces you want. They offer MP3 and MIDI files along with downloads. If that’s not enough, you’ll find notes on music theory too. Unlike Sheeto, they are not free to join, and you’ll have to pay $20 a year.
3. SheetMusicDirect
The site is paid, but you can access some sheet music for free. Their selection of free music is not the most diverse, however. If you’re thinking of getting a membership, it’ll be $9.99 a month. But you can snag a trial month if you prefer. With a paid account, you’ll have access to over 300,000 artist-approved arrangements. There are 35 different instrumentals as well.
4. Mutopia Project
The Mutopia Project isn’t the easiest to use and their site looks dated. However, their services are free. There are over 2000 pieces for you to download and you don’t have to feel guilty about using the site. All the music offered have Creative Commons Licenses. This lets you download, edit, and redistribute them. In terms of the genre of music they offer, they are mostly classical.
5. Pianotte
As the name suggests, they cater to pianists. This could either be an advantage or disadvantage, but they offer more contemporary pieces than classical. Like the entry above, we don’t think Pianotte is easy to use. Their site has a confusing layout. However, it’s free, and there are hundreds of sheets to download. You’ll be able to get them in PDF format, as well.
Final Thoughts
As a musician, using sheet music can help you improve your playing and enable you to learn pieces you’ve always wanted to play, whether classical or modern. You can also pick up techniques and be exposed to genres you are less familiar with. If you’re a student learning music, the sites can be just as helpful.
Although Sheeto was shut down, its alternatives offer equally great features. From the many we’ve discussed, IMSLP is the best. They offer the largest selection of free sheet music on the web and have been around for over a decade. The fact that there are over 100,000 items to download is the best thing about the site. 8.Notes is a close second. However, you’ll have to pay to download their sheet music.
