Pros

This well priced keyboard is great for those who are just starting out with digital pianos. The Yamaha PSRE-243 has some great features, with plenty of voices, styles, and a master EQ; players are able to fully customise their music. With hundreds of voices, styles and songs, you wont be short of choice when creating your music. The Yamaha PSRE-243 is also battery powered, light, and very portable. This accompanied with the Ultrawide Stereo Effect make this keyboard a great performance instrument.

Cons

The Yamaha PSRE-243 is quite basic, and does not offer as many features as other models. The keys are not weighted and it does not offer touch sensitivity, so players are unable to be as expressive as they may be able to be with other models. The Yamaha PSRE-243 also requires 6 AA batteries in order to run, and these can be costly to keep replacing.

Sound Quality

Although the Yamaha PSRE-243 does not offer as many features as other Yamaha keyboard models, it still carries a powerful sound. The Yamaha PSRE-243 offers Ultra Wide Stereo Sound, as seen in other models, which projects the sound wider than the speakers with the digital imaging software that Yamaha has created. The Master EQ allows you to change and develop the sound to your own image, so you can get exactly the sound you want out of this keyboard.

Key Action and Realism

The Yamaha PSRE-243 falls short when it comes to the keys. They are not weighted, nor are they touch sensitive, so you can only really produce one level of sound. However, the sound that you do produce is clear and high quality, as well as being totally customisable.

Other Features and Specifications

The Yamaha PSRE-243 offers a massive 385 voices, 102 songs, and 100 styles, as well as a grand piano button. It offers full iPhone and iPad connectivity, and Yamaha Educational Studio (Y.E.S), which helps new users to learn more about how to play the instrument.

Final Thoughts

Although the Yamaha PSRE-243 does not offer as many features as other keyboards, and does not have the diversity of play, it is still a great keyboard for beginners. Although it may not be the best on the market, the Yamaha PSRE-243 is very well priced, it is very portable, and still produces a great sound, so it is great for both performance and practice.
